Going to a Birthday Party for a 12 year old today
« on: March 04, 2007, 12:40:16 PM » |
|
My brother's soon to be step-daughter turns 12 today and I am going to her party this evening. It sucks on many levels: 1) I have absolutely no idea what kind of present to give to a 12 year old girl 2) Laura's out of town so I'm flying solo 3) I can't even drink because I have to drive myself home 4) It's at *goshdarn* Olive Garden

She's already got one. That's the other problem- she's got everything. I think I'll give her cash, though she probably has absolutely no idea what cash is or what to do with it. I'm fairly sure she's never been called upon to have or spend her own money.

Tell her you made a donation in her name to help a less fortunate, aspiring alcoholic in Minnesota. I'll print up and send you out a certificate of appreciation.

My soon to be 10 year old loves the gift cards. Course she loves to shop.
That and gift certificates to the music site of her liking (if she has an MP3 player already.)

Get her golf clubs. Re-grip the ones she already has. Pshaw. As if she'd do anything that might require her to spend any amount of time outside. Maybe I could get her TW 2007. More her speed I think. [Don't get me wrong, she's actually a really nice kid but as spoiled and inactive as any kid I've ever met.]

I have to second the gift card. It's a great cop-out gift and kids love 'em.
Sorry about the Olive Garden though.

Why is buying something for a 12 year old girl such a problem? They like lots of things! Surely, there is an indoor hobby she likes. Or just go with a gift card. She probably would prefer picking out her own clothes rather than you picking out something for her. Try to make the best of it and have fun. I'm sure your brother will appreciate your presence.
