What Did You Want To Be When You Grew Up?

Back when you were a kid (say, up to the age of perhaps 12), that is.
Are you in that job or even that field today? Were you ever?

No and no. Thanks. While you're at it maybe you could give me a nice paper cut and pour some lemon juice on it.

Heh. After I grew up I wanted to be Sir Robin's minstrels (all of them), but they were eaten at the frozen land of Nador, so I gave up with this plan.
Seriously now, I wanted to be a music teacher. I made it come true, for a while.

At 12? If I'm honest, I didn't even know what I wanted to be when I went off to school. Maybe a teacher so there could still be time.
Actually, this is a timely question as right now and for the past year or so I've been trying to figure out what's next for me.
Plus we've recently had a shake-up at work. A new president for our division, yada yada yada, and here's the end of his lengthy e-mail from a week ago (italics mine):
Organizational change and restructuring takes a toll on everyone. Over the next few weeks we will make decisions that affect the careers of every person in ME and I have three requests. First, please carefully consider how you could best combine your skills and aspirations with the goals of the business, We need the right people in the right places. Second, we need to maintain focus on the business at hand. Reorganizations are a clear distraction and I would ask that you maintain the discipline to put the customer first and execute on your area of responsibility. Finally, I ask for your participation and enthusiasm in creating the new structure.

I really can't remember what I aspired to at 12. Probably playing for the Baltimore Colts I do know that I wanted to be a sports writer by the time I was in high school, 10th grade or so. I did work for a newspaper (the long gone Houston Post) for about 15 years in nearly every department doing almost everything except writing. That seems a couple of lifetimes ago.

At 12 I wanted to be a police officer. As an adult, I'm glad that I didn't get what I wanted when I was twelve.

I can't really say at 12 I knew what I wanted to do for sure, but I can say even at that early age I was fairly convinced my life's work would be somewhere in the copulation sector. Copulation simply fascinated me back then!
