Unofficial "official" Masters Pool First Round Standings
« on: April 05, 2007, 05:03:35 PM » |
|
O.K. so I need to verify the accuracy of my kick-butt spreadsheet but here's the unofficial standings:
Seamus McDuff 8 Walfredo 9 azsgolf 11 Eagleone 11 Teed 12 Aske 13 BobA 13 Fuzzmental 14 dystopia 14 spaceage 15 stroh 16 Torpedo 16 Clive 20 twoiron 20 E-A-G-L-E 22 wishicouldhit 24 tdcoly 25 wishicouldhitRussell 26 1puttpar 27
Three notes:
Clive and 1puttpar had Faldo and Woosnam respectively. They did not play so the "high score of the day" rule was instituted. This is a friendly contest so I will hear arguments/appeals/etc.
tdcoly - check your inbox. You picked Campbell. I need to know which one. Not a big deal scorewise at this point but I'm going to flip a coin before round two if I don't hear from you.
EDIT: Thanks! Chad it is.
Please let me know, if you're scoring at home, of any discrepancies. Thanks.

Cool. My spreadsheet matched all your numbers EXACTLY. For a while I started thinking that the "high score of the day" score for Faldo and Woosnam was too punitive, and I was going to suggest that they just be given the worst score on a person's team. But then I realized that it ends up with the same result anyway, the Faldo/Woosnam score would effectively be dropped in either case.

On your second point, the two worst picks who golfed were Funk and Villegas. Neither would've changed the scores of the teams in question. But it's not a bad idea.........

Note for next time: have people pick an alternate, just in case a team member doesn't even start the tournament for some reason. Missing the cut should be part of the pool, but a player not even teeing it up ... ?

That's another good idea. I felt bad about Faldo/Woosnam and I'm trying to think of a way to rectify it.
Maybe coin flip for one of the other players of equal "salary"?

Maybe give them the stroke average, CBS said it like 4 times today but I really wasn't paying attention at the time. Had to be around 75-77, couldn't be too hard to figure out.
Maybe we should have a cut of our teams for the weekend, down to 4, if you're lucky enough to have 4 make the real cut.
*EDIT* Just checked the Masters web page, stroke average today was 76. That is all.

Missing the cut should be part of the pool, but a player not even teeing it up ... ? What he said. From the "official" rules: Any player who withdraws after beginning play, is disqualified, or misses the cut will receive the highest score of the day for each day he does not compete Since Woosnam and Faldo did not withdraw after beginning play, there should be some equitable alternative, IMHO.

I agree. Since this was the first time I've done this I assumed there would be situations arise (such as not having a tie-breaker provision, but I'm working on that ) And since this is a friendly little competition we should be able to work something out. Not sure how to pick and alternate but what do you think about this: Since both Woosnam and Faldo were #2's in salary, I will take the average score of all #2's who played. So....the scores were 77, 75, 74, 83, 76, 74, 77, 74 which makes the average 76. (i know it 76.25 but I'll round down) This would change 1putt's score to 24 and Clive's score the 17. I'll have to think about the "cut". If we continue to do this it almost guarantees you'll have this slot make the cut.

Weird. Just read your post. Stroke average of the field equaled the stroke average of the 8 #2 salary players.

I was going to suggest a big pool of jello and speedos and first one out gets par last one out gets 80 but yours works too.
