Go to the Estrogen Festival that was Ladies Night at Golf Galaxy @ Robinson. I got there with a girlfriend of mine whom I am trying to convert but she is pleading finances and life getting in the way (sacrilege!), and there's this almost 15 yard line of women of an average age of 45. I feel young and fresh, and wait for 10 minutes till the doors opened.
It didn't start well. I was three people behind the last woman that received a freebies bag. I could really use the Callaway Hex (I think) balls and the Golf for Women Magazine which I'd buy anyway at some point - other than that, they were offering some Precept balls that I already own (and that they gave away later in the evening anyway) and a page of coupons that I couldn't use anyway.
So I have this coupon for $75 bucks off
any set of irons or full. My initial idea was to persuade my girlfriend to invest in a beginners 7 club set, for which she'd end up paying something like 25 bucks plus tax. She didn't want to. I admitted defeat and started thinking how could
I take advantage of said coupon.
Meanwhile, they are drawing numbers for the raffle, and I of course won't win anything. (I wish I had my mother with me, she ALWAYS wins something every freaking time). I try a couple of drivers (a TaylorMade and a Cobra), but their tee is so low that I can't hit worth *feces*.
Enter Aske. He battles valiantly among the forces of estrogen and together we cruise the used clubs section. Since I can't get the Nike Combo Pro set, I focus on another iron set. I even try the 5, 7 and PW on the simulator, and hit a couple of really good 7 and 5, and a pretty good PW. Might as well buy them, right?
Which I did, and it only costed 50 bucks, and their you have it, my new set of irons, Bridgestone Precept, Tour Premium Forged irons fitted with Nippon 950 shafts and brand new grips. Whoever bought those must have barely played them more than a couple of months. No complains here. More iron love for me.
Updates when I take the babies to the course and play with them as appropriately. The Sal is finally overgrowing the huge cavity back iron set for ladies that everyone (but everyone) thinks she needs. Maybe a couple of years ago, but certainly not today. Ask Aske about his opinion too.
Woot!
