The Dow is not a very meaningful index, as you know. I'm not sure why it's given so much weight, other than tradition.
With that said, the Dow did 2.5 times better under Clinton during the same span of time in his administration. That must be proof that not cutting taxes works?

Clinton inherited an economy already improving from a little recession, Bush inherited an economy already on its way down to a recession. Hardly seems like a fair comparison. Not that a president makes an economy - so, more importantly... Clinton didn't sign a capital gains tax reduction? (think 1997)

because the spinning heads need anything they can to 'con'vince the plebs that everything is ok. and to joe moron, this type of complex metric and subsequent analysis is probably "con"vincing.

Since the stock market is a form of legalized Ponzi scheme, it behooves all those involved in equities trading to paint a rosy picture. Those that are already holding a long position in the market can't bank their gains without new investors to sell their shares to.

My my, the Dow breaks 13000 and someone writes about it (I'm assuming anyway - can't access the related article from work). Ooooooooo - how terrible of them. I'll be sure to show as much surprise and disdain the next time Krugman (NY Times) and others write anything about the economy - there's a party line towed quite well, so you're in good hands - don't worry.

And I'm sure you'll apply the same scrutiny on the next 'bad' economy article by any above mentioned shills Oh - and my head had it right, fingers failed - as is often the case
