rats, that's gonna hurt.  I drive from San Jose(ish) to Berkeley on 880 for my commute.

The MacArthur Maze was already a pain, this is going to increase congestion on my main (980) route as well as my alternate routes.

Impressive pics, though.

Authorities said the damage could take months to repair, and that it would cause the worst disruption for Bay Area commuters since the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake damaged a section of the Bay Bridge itself.

Transportation officials said they already had added trains to the Bay Area Rapid Transit light rail system that takes commuters across San Francisco Bay, and were urging people to telecommute if possible.

State officials said motorists who try to take alternate routes Monday instead of relying on public transportation would face nightmarish commutes.

Well, if I'm not posting much in the near future, now you'll know why.  My commute was already 1.5-2 hrs one-way before this. Disgusted

1.5 to 2 hours before?

Is Salinas 'San Joseish'?

I'm going guess Morgan Hill, maybe...

Actually, I'm not that far down.  I'm only in Sunnyvale, but I lose  a lot of time on the small streets in Berkeley and in traffic around the Coliseum.

Well, it used to take me 45 minutes to get from just south of the NUMMI plant to barely north Sunnyvale on the ECR, (except on Sundays when it took me 12  Roll Eyes ) so I think I believe you.

Unless you get one hellacious salary and/or your work has daily candy and strippers sessions, I have to wonder why anyone would spend 3-4 hours PER DAY commuting.

You have to be single, right?

The local news has been cutting in all day about how bad the commute will be tomorrow.  It looks like they're going to make the public transit free to help out.

If it takes me more than 4 hours to get to work tomorrow, I'm just going to turn around and call it a day.  I'm starting to think that this might be a sign from the Flying Spaghetti Monster that I need to find a closer job.

A coworker and I were lamenting the new construction at the only intersection we encounter that has a traffic light.  One lane closed, and a flagger to filter cars through the one remaining lane.  Turns our 5-minute commute into a 6- or 7-minute commute.

Yeah, we have it rough.
