Homer Simpson question

Maybe I'm just drunk, but how old do you think Homer Simpson is? The Simpsons/Tracy Ulmann show came out in high school for me, so I always thought of Homer as older. But I think I may have now surpassed his age. I don't think they ever mention his age, but how old would you estimate Homer to be?

I've actually done the homework on this.
Homer is in his early 50's. His mother left to join a commune after taking a very young Homer to Woodstock.
He graduated high school in the late '70's. There are all types of musical and bicentennial references in the shows that deal with Marge and Homer's courtship.
Cartoon my ass...

Homer is perennially 38 years old. He started as 34, but the writers decided early on to make him older. There were 2 episodes, however, where he was said to be 39, and 40, but seems to return to the standard of 38. (The childhood, and high school references somewhat support the time line, given the shows inception, in '87.)

From the all-knowing wikipedia... In the episode "Duffless", Homer's license said he was born on May 12, 1956. Although The Simpsons has a floating timeline in which the characters do not age, and the show is set in the current year, certain dates have been given. According to one source, Homer Simpson was born c. May 12, 1955[6] But they also agree with stroh so I'm sure he plagarized them with his post.

Interesting. I kind of expected a lot of inconsistencies in the show because there have been so many storylines, many conflicting.
Personally, I always thought of him as early/mid thirties since I assumed he got married young because of Bart.
