this isn't just ANY reference....
Maybe not for you. But for someone like me, well, they all blend together at times.

Even started to read the article. But, well, I stopped reading when I came to the sentence about attending nightclubs and the genre of videos he enjoys watching.

I've never heard of Patrick Bateman. I can't tell you how reassuring that is. I hate thinking that I'm the only guy that misses so many of these references. Bob, never feel like you are the only one that misses references. If you miss a reference, just think of how many I miss. I probably miss at least 3/4 of the references thinking that someone is saying what they think, when in reality they are quoting a line from a movie, sitcom, book or etc. This past year my wife is starting to realize that all the funny stuff I said while courting her was either from The Simpsons, The Big Lebowski or Quinten Tarantino movies and a few others. Fortunately she has already fallen for my charm or she might have become put off by that fact.

This reminds me of a time just after college when a couple buddies and I tried to go an entire weekend without saying anything that referenced the Simpsons, SNL, or Seinfeld. Another friend of ours complained that we were really dull and quiet and urged us to go back to normal. Not only did we lose all our direct references to those shows, we'd have long pauses where we formerly had fast banter as we tried to trace inside jokes back in our heads to see if they were, in fact, ultimately derived from one of those shows but had been mutated over time.
