And the slow down continues
« on: May 25, 2007, 09:21:39 AM »

This week while at work on an overtime day I was told that overtime has been canceled. I was then sent home.

Unfortunately this was told to me after I sent an e-mail to my guys blasting them for not working extra to cover vacations and to complete projects. My com padre on the other side of the week got a good laugh out of it as I had to basically tell everyone that had been slacking that they are now screwed because there is no opportunity for them to make up for their lack of extra effort.

Timing is everything.

While overtime was voluntary it was highly recommended.  Since our group had gotten smaller there is less spread between the top and bottom performers. (my company bases raises on performance and the bottom 10% get goose eggs). So with such a small group you really have to shine and put forth extra effort, just doing your job is not enough anymore.

The ones that have been there 20+ years don't see that that and just want to coast. That prompted my original e-mail. The second e-mail basically said I had just been informed that overtime is canceled and that I would explain on Sunday (first day back).

I didn't actually say they were screwed. There will be some that are glad, some disappointed and others indifferent.

Plus we will be doing the mid year reviews this month. As most people only remember the most recent months or weeks that tends to weight more on the reviews.

...............................Oh never mind. I just thought it was funny that I told everyone that I expected more effort at covering vacations then had to turn around and tell them never mind. I basically put my foot in my mouth.

Well, they can always work more efficiently if they can't work more hours. IOW, don't make stupid mistakes, don't take (cigarette, piss, web-surfing, etc.) breaks, and don't eat lunch.
