Portable DVD Player, Primarily For Car Use

Recommendations, please. Toddler + eight-hour car trip = bad juju; video entertainment perhaps will mollify said toddler for minutes on end.
We've gone the laptop route, but holding the stupid thing gets tiresome and battery life is limiting. (Spinning that disc sure does drain the battery!)
Budget is a consideration, as this thing won't be used daily. We don't need videophile/audiophile quality, either.

Take your vehicle to one of those places that pimp out your vehicle, and get an indash one with display units in the back of the front headrests.

Toddler
...
Budget is a consideration Hmmmm... what to do. I would (did) bite the bullet and spring for a permanent job assuming you're going to keep the car and it's your goto ride for long trips. We put a Rosen 10" in our mini-van and it's golden. It's been on a few trips to St. George and we get four hours of adult conversation out of five hours in the vehicle. Trip to Monterey in a couple of weeks will give it the max stress test. Oh, and our kids aren't toddlers and it was still well worth it. Wireless headsets a must by the way.

That sounds a lot more expensive than Windsor Canadian.

What is Windsor Canadian? It sounds like alcohol!!! Let's examine the clues: 1. Stroh posted about it. Yup, I think it's alcohol.

We bought pretty inexpensive one that attaches to the back of the headrest in front of you ro stands on it's own. Panasonic I think. Paid about $100 on sale. Nothing fancy, but it does the job. My point is I'm not sure there is a really bad option if you aren't an audiophile and go with a known brand.

Get the cheapest you can find.
That way it hurts less if/when it gets wrecked. Actually holding the device seems to be very important and pleasing to the child which creates it's own problems.
We bought the twins one each when they were 2 and we were flying to England, got some for about 70 bucks each, 4 or so years ago.
The kids don't care about picture quality or sound, just as long as they can see Shrek blowing bubbles in the mud is all good.
Ours are 6 now so they are trusted with laptops but back then cheap and cheerful was the way.
You can probably get a decent one for about 50 bucks now.

My new car has a built in roof mounted screen... only thing is you have to be in the back to watch it.

I also wanted to say that there are so many cheap 7 inchers around, but I figured some of you with dirty minds might take it the wrong way....
