iPhone - Success or Flop? [poll]
« on: June 22, 2007, 01:28:31 PM » |

I'm 80% sure I'm going to try to get an iPhone next Friday.
The hype is enormous. I've talked to a lot of people who are interested in it, but balking at the price or getting out of their current contract.
Still, they're projecting huge numbers next week. Think they'll sell out?

They look badass and I bet they are a success. Everyone I know wants one but I would have to get it for Christmas or my bday. No way I could justify the money for one now.

initial success followed by massive backlash*, then another wave of success
* due to: 1: hardware glitches, etc... fixed in 'upgrade' v2.3 or so 2: big wave of morans who shell out a fortune , then realize it costs even more of a fortune($300-$400/mo) to actually use the device to its potential (ie. service plan - data rates, etc)
2nd wave due to: 1: upgrade, economies of scale, marketplace competition, etc. hardware price falls, becomes loss leader etc 2: enough competition will bring new tier of service plans into competition and make them moderately more affordable

lol! I agree. I heard on the tv, that there is already over 13 million ordered/backordered. The average "top selling phone of the moment" sells around 1 million units. I will definetly buy one. I think it will change the world.

Huge success. Will probably sweep for product of the decade. Main competition will be iPod. However, I'm waiting for the holidays. I never buy v1.0. I also think prices will drop. Not by then probably but you never know. I will definetly buy one. I think it will change the world. Not sure if you meant this tongue-in-cheek or not. I actually believe this. I'm not saying Apple's iPhone will change the world but I do think it will be the first realization of a handheld/smartphone/pda that can really do it all. It will definitely change MY world vis-a-vis work.

The next people in line probably won't show up for days. If your plan is to be first and get the attention, though, you've gotta get the jump on everyone. I was tempted to start camping out for an iPhone last week with a GolfHos sign. Then after the pictures were taken and the blogging/media attention stopped, I'd just go home and come back on Friday like everyone else.
