Need El Sugjesteeonays, Por Fuhvorr
« on: June 30, 2007, 09:38:42 AM » |

A doctor, and good friend of mine is retiring.
I'm headed to a little soiree this afternoon, and feel I should bring a gift.
A bottle of wine, or perhaps some beer. (He's german, and loves beer. The goofy ass *feces* you guys drink)
Any suggestions for either?
I trained under him, and worked along side him for years. He is a close friend, and I credit him for what my career is today. I'm not sayin' I want to drop the hundo for the ol' Perignon, but something nice.
I know youse guys have lots o' class and taste and know what's good. and stuff. I respect your opines.
TIA.

Being that taste in beer and wine is extremely personal, take this with a grain of salt, but (particularly given your mention of his German heritage), I'd suggest maybe a beer from the Spaten Brewery family (my favorite being the Optimator, but the Oktoberfest is good too). Otherwise something from Stone Brewing (really like the Arrogant Bastard, but it appeals to a very limited audience, perhaps something like their IPA or Smoked Porter), or pretty much anything from the Rogue Ale lineup if you can find it in your area.
Wine being even more personal than beer, I'm a bit reluctant to provide suggestions without knowing what he likes, but personally, I've yet to meet a mid-range Syrah that I didn't treat me kindly. I'm also digging South American (Argentinian and Chilean in particular) wines right now.
Sorry, that's the best I can offer.

Not at all. Thank you. That is very helpful. I won't have much time, just have to pop in some place on the way, but I'll search for some of those names.

I'll leave the wine and beer to the experts, do you know if he likes a good cigar?
Bottle of nice wine or good beer and a good cigar has a ring to it.

You could offer to remove the stick from his ass but Germans often prefer it as is. Sorry, j/k. Any idea what style of beer he drinks? You wouldn't want to bring a dunkel when he's a lager man or vice versa.

LOL Good question. I would say darker beers, if that helps. Good rich hoppy chewy beer. Seamers, he's a bit of health nut, so I think the cigar would be wasted on him.

Screw that crushed grape *feces*! Bring a case of Löwenbräu. Here's to good friends, Tonight is kind of special. The beer we'll pour must say something more, somehow. So tonight (tonight), Tonight, Let it be Lowenbrau (let it be Lowenbrau). It's been so long. Hey, I'm glad to see ya. Raise your glass. Here's to health and happiness. So tonight (tonight), Let it be all the best.

They didn't have it. Woman said they only have the lower end Ravenswood wines. If I would like, they could special order some for me. Some dude picked out a bottle for me. A blended red wine. Went over well. I looked at all the beers, but didn't see any you guys mentioned, so I just went with the wine. Good time. Great party. Saw friends I hadn't seen in 7 or 8 years. Nice to catch up. Drank Leinenkugels, and Killian's Red. Thanks for all the suggestions.
