A friend of mine had a birthday not too long ago. Every year he bikes at least as many miles as he is old. So I was wondering if any of you have some such tradition for your birthday?
That's a cool idea. I need to start doing something like that. My last few birthdays have just flown by and it would be cool to have a tradition like that where I could reflect on each passing year.
I thought it was a cool idea, too. I've been finding it difficult, though, to find activities that translate well every year - especially for a winter birthday.
I don't do anything in particular each birthday (other than eat birthday cake -- that's a requirement!). I have ideas, though:
Charity related (may be too goody-goody for you):
- $1 (or $10 if you can spare it) per year sent to your favorite charity
- # of pounds or cans of food donated to your local soup kitchen
Knowledge-related:
- # of digits of pi to memorize
Fun-related:
- # of bars to cruise by that day
- # of pieces of candy, sq inches of cake to eat, etc
But, instead of doing something bigger/more each year, what about doing something different each year?
- Eat/Drink something you haven't tried before
- Try a new restaurant
- I think E-A-G-L-E crochets, right - learn a new stitch or lace pattern each year
- Try a new recipe each year (and since it's your birthday, no one gets to complain if it's bad!)
Which reminds me, my birthday's coming up. If I wanted to eat something that I hadn't tried before (and I wanted something that tastes good), anybody have any suggestions? (Did anyone get to the bottom of this post??
