Hmm... nearest point of relief no nearer the hole from GUR.

Cart Path... no relief, play it as it lies...

What's the "twine"?

25-1 Abnormal Ground Conditions
a. Interference
Interference by an abnormal ground condition occurs when a ball lies in or touches the condition or when the condition interferes with the player's stance or the area of his intended swing. If the player's ball lies on the putting green, interference also occurs if an abnormal ground condition on the putting green intervenes on his line of putt. Otherwise, intervention on the line of play is not, of itself, interference under this Rule.
b. Relief
Except when the ball is in a water hazard or a lateral water hazard, a player may take relief from interference by an abnormal ground condition as follows:
(i)  Through the Green: If the ball lies through the green, the player must lift the ball and drop it without penalty within one club-length of and not nearer the hole than the nearest point of relief. The nearest point of relief must not be in a hazard or on a putting green. When the ball is dropped within one club-length of the nearest point of relief, the ball must first strike a part of the course at a spot that avoids interference by the condition and is not in a hazard and not on a putting green; ...

24-2 Immovable Obstruction
a. Interference
Interference by an immovable obstruction occurs when a ball lies in or on the obstruction, or when the obstruction interferes with the player’s stance or the area of his intended swing. If the player’s ball lies on the putting green, interference also occurs if an immovable obstruction on the putting green intervenes on his line of putt. Otherwise, intervention on the line of play is not, of itself, interference under this Rule.

Is the cart path considered an immovable obstruction?

Ok.   This will be rambling, but it's the only way I can get there.

I hit my second shot (par 5) into an area marked GUR.  It is staked off, with twine(smart ass), and flags tied to the stakes, to keep Oak Grove rednecks from driving in there, and hitting shots out of it. The thing is, this are is huge, probably 50 yards by 50 yards, and I'm dead in the middle of it.  Now,  where my ball is, I'm 125 out, and straight at the flagstick.  It seems my nearest point of relief is way left, but that puts me in the rough, blocked by trees, and about 165 out.  (This is where I took relief)  Is this correct?

My MS Paint skills suck donkey balls, so the feeling, and scope is not effectively conveyed, along with my angst!  Angry

#2  I hit my ball to a place of dirt from water runoff, and cart wear from exiting the cart path.  The guy I was playing with said drop from there, that's cart path.  I said "A.  I don't think it is, and B. even if it is, it isn't affecting my stance, or intended swing."  I played it as it lied.

Was I correct?  Could this be considered abnormal conditions? (so I could have taken relief?)

1.  NPR is NPR.  Sounds like you took the correct drop.  However, you don't have to take relief from an abnormal ground condition.  You could have played the ball as is.

2.  No relief.  The scatter area at the end of a cart path isn't artificial (tell me if I'm reading that wrong).  An obstruction MUST be artificial.

Ditto.  FWIW, I usually take someone who's asking about relief from GUR to mean he's already sized up playing it from the GUR and demurred.  My bad.

Stroh, is there a local rules making GUR relief MANDATORY from that area?
