There are three Ute tribal reservations: (1) Uintah-Ouray in northeastern Utah (3,500 members), (2) Southern Ute (1,500 members) and (3) Ute Mountain (2,000 members) — both in southwestern Colorado. (All numbers are approximate) The name of the state of Utah was derived from the name Ute. |

Not former, they're still around. The state is named after them and the school is known as the Running Utes although PC effected a change in mascot to a red tailed hawk in the past decade or two. |
