Wind

Holy chit, it was windy here yesterday.  We played out at the airport and the winds must have been about 30 mph sustained and gusting to quite a bit more.  Combined with hard, fast fairways and we were dealing with 4-6 club winds depending on the circumstances:

Crosswind

Two par threes (first and last) had wind coming from the right.  On both holes I played about 30 yards of wind draw.  On the first one I only got about ten and landed to the right of the green.  On the second I had close to 35 and the ball ended up on the front left.

Upwind

I played my 22* Quickstrike (3I/7W) from about 205 yards.  This club is normally good for 210-220 yards.  I knew I wouldn't reach the green but there's a lot of trouble down there and I didn't want to risk anything bigger.  I absolutely smoked the thing, as good contact as I'm capable, and it went exactly 140 yards.

A couple of holes later is a par-5 with water all up the right.  It plays a bit longer than stated on the card because you're compelled to play around the outside of the lake (swamp really).  I scored an eleven on the hole.  LOL.  If your ball was anything other than dead into the wind it started going sideways.  I had two penalties and even a low pitch I thought was perfect hung up in the wind and left me in three putt range. 

My cousin scored a seven on the same hole with 3W, 3W, 5I, PW (latter not a full shot).  He three putted too because you couldn't ground your putter for fear of penalty.

As much as a six club wind.

Downwind

Next hole is 550 straight downwind.  Mark goes first and, I chit you not, got 380 yards out of a 3W.  Granted, maybe 80 of that was roll.  I flew my drive 300+ but into the rough and didn't get the roll.  About 320 total.

Second shots.  Mark slightly chunks a pitching wedge and barely comes up short.  Keep in mind he was playing a PW from 170.  I played a 5I from 230 and carried front green high.  It landed straight into a mound and stopped.  My 5I is usually good for 185. 

Tough to gauge but probably about 3-4 club wind.

LOL.  Crazy day.  I figure it was a six shot handicap easy.  I played pretty good considering other than the +6 on that upwind par-5. 

That course is always windy. Don't know that I've ever played it like that though. I might have packed it in and gone home.
