My guess is Stephen King, I've been looking but I just can't make the connection. Of course I haven't tried the muppets route.

I give up... Sad

Here are a couple of hints:

There is one "supergroup" in the chain and one sort of "after-the-fact" supergroup (i.e. the members didn't become truly famous until they went on to form their own bands).

One of the guitar legends played as a session musician on a solo record released by a former frontman of a legendary rock band after a controversial split.

Try this on:

David Gilmour-Roger Waters

Roger Waters-Jeff Beck

Jeff Beck-Cozy Powell

Cozy Powell-Brian May

Well, I'll be damned. There's actually a solution that's even shorter than yours.

LOL, I give up, seriously.

Just get rid of Cozy Powell. Beck played on solo albums by both Waters and May. That's the shortest solution.

My original roundabout solution was:

David Gilmour - (Pink Floyd) - Roger Waters - ("The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking") - Eric Clapton -
(The Yardbirds) - Jimmy Page - (The Firm) - Paul Rodgers - (Queen + Paul Rodgers) - Brian May

Jeff Beck, who was also a member of the Yardbirds, obviates the need for Clapton, Page, and Rodgers.  Sad

Grin

I guess a clarification of rule #1 should be that a "performance" is defined as a song, since there are also many compilation albums with separate recordings by different groups.

Of course, your album may still pass this test since many of these performers sang together on these songs.
