Car Adornments or Bumper Stickers?
« on: August 29, 2007, 02:17:34 PM » |
|
I noticed something odd on my commute today. When I left my house (in silicon valley), I passed cars with geeky stickers and emblems on their cars (linux, penny arcade, metal flying spaghetti monster, etc.) Then when I got to work in Berkeley, most of the cars had hippie, antibush, save-the-planet bumper stickers.
I realized that I might have the most boring car in the planet. It has no bumper stickers, antenna balls, metal fish, honor roll stickers, stick figure families, urinating Calvins, baby on board signs, stuck Garfields, shattered golfball/baseballs, or anything. Aside from dirt and scratches, it looks the same as when I drove it off the lot 6 years ago. The only thing that keeps it from being completely non-descript is a licence plate frame with the dealer's name on it, which I'm too lazy to remove. My last car was pretty boring too, but I did have a Pittsburgh Penguins bumper sticker on it.
Do any of you have any bumper stickers or any sort of personalization/decoration on your cars?

Nope. I could care less and my wife thinks they look stupid. Who cares what band you're into while they are driving behind you on the freeway? I do get a good laugh at the people with the "W" stickers still on their car. Talk about stubborn morans.

Nope, we don't have anything on our van.
And actaully, I can't think of much that I would want to put on my car (if I had one). I don't like bumper stickers, though if I found just the right one, I'd *consider* it - and even then I still might not. And it would have to be magnetic. But I really don't like 'em. They fade, too many look junky, etc, etc. An antenna golf ball might be fun. Oh, I'd put an ΙΧΘΥΣ fish on the trunk. The fish and the golf ball would be more than plenty for me.

On the rear window of my Pathfinder I have a small "Dog is my Copilot" sticker and an even smaller Pit Bull sticker that says "Equal Rights." Though I have actually been planning on removing them for quite a while now, just haven't gotten around to it. I've toyed with a FSM "Fish" but just haven't bothered.
The MINI has a small Union Jack underneath each side vent just behind the front wheel well, a GB oval on the back window, and racing stripes on the hood. It also has a license plate frame that says "You think my MINI's Cute? You should see my Pit Bull." (What can I say? We're dorks.)

Oh yeah, I left out a big part of my car that screams dorkmobile. My license plate is "V4VENDETTA" (without some of the vowels) It was a lot cooler before the movie came out and only people that read the comic book would come up to me.

It's no MERLOT, I'll give you that.

Small Gravity Skateboards sticker on the Oldsmobile.
The Redneck mobile (truck) is a whole different matter:
Back of the cab:
Generic winged sprint car sticker (Like an MLB logo, but a sprint car.)
National Sprint Tour sticker.
Hoseheads.com sticker
Caddyshack Racing (Steve Williams Late Model, yeah, THAT Steve Williams)
On the back window of the shell:
Dale Earnhardt #3'The Legend' (It's freakin' huge, 24" or so), across the top
#20 Tony Stewart (really small)
National Sprint Tour again (small, with 2 smaller generic logo stickers like on the cab for 'balance'
Kirkpatrick Racing (410 Skagit Champion last year, I've also known Danny for 20 years or so)
USAC/CRA sticker.
2 Gravity Skateboards (one on top of the other, like a mirror image)
'Rory Price, in memoriam' (We lost Rory last year at Evergreen during practice for an NSRA race)
There's something else I'm missing, I'm sure.
Yeah, I'm a redneck...

I have absolutely nothing on or in my car. Well, one folded seat cover in the back seat, and occasionally a driver (me).
Which is pretty crazy, considering what my desk at work looks like.

My 74 Honda Civic has some punk stickers, and a big Morey sticker from my boogie boarding days. The other 3 cars in the household are naked.

You know as well as I do that an '87 Dakota with a 2" lift and a bunch of racin' stickers on it IS under the radar in the rural PacNW...

I have a LA dodgers cap, and an Angels "fisherman's hat" sitting up under the back window of my car.

Oh, there are 2 stickers I like.
University of Garage Logic Gun Control means using both hands
Probably will never use, though.
