No smoking on golf courses?

The Oakland City Council voted early today to ban smoking in ATM lines, parks and other public places.
[...]
In addition to ATM lines and parks, the law forbids smoking in outdoor dining areas, on golf courses and public trails, in child care centers and hotels, at bus stops and within 10 feet of bars.

It's not law quite yet.  Apparently, Oakland, CA has a 'second reading' rule, requiring them to review laws before putting them into the books.

How do they propose to enforce this fine piece of legislation, and will it extend to privately owned and operated courses within the City Of Oakland?

You are only allowed to smoke on the odd holes at our course, but nobody seems to take any notice of the rules.

I figure the same way they enforce the no smoking in bars rule.  Huge fines for the operators of the establishment, plus the extra business from previously turned off non-smokers.  Bars don't even smell like smoke any more around here.

No smoking on golf courses?

I wish, I have asthma and there are usually smokers around/getting paired up with us. Sad

That's hilarious.  Is there an option to play just the odd holes (or even, for that matter)?   Grin

Well, I managed to get one of the first tickets for a PATRON in Alameda County, so I'll rephrase the question:

Are they going to patrol the golf courses looking for smokers? Is the marshall going to yell 'Stop, or I'll call a cop?'

I'm not 100 pct sure, but I think part of Lake Chabot is actually outside the City Limits, can I smoke on the parts that are outside?

And what about that whole privately operated thing, anyway?

It's true, we have strick smoking rules in Queensland.
Our club has enforced the rule on the golf course (because of the drinking license), but people still take no notice of it, its not like you have the "smoking police" out there on the look out.

That's so subjective though. What if all the holes seem odd to you?

So you can smoke on 1,3,9 etc, but you can't smoke on 2,4,6 etc?

Does this make sense to you folks, or do you feel it's as asinine as it looks to this poor deluded Yank?

You think our rule is funny, at Paradise Palms in Cairns, you can only smoke in the hazards, I think it is Atherton, you can smoke on the fairways, but not on the greens. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
