What ever happened to simply calling someone an *bunghole* as they walked away when you think they've been rude to you?

I blame teh faceless interwebs. Changes (has changed) people. We're not as polite. We hammer people just for holding a different opinion. We fly into net rage. We speak the ghey at stroh. None of these things would we have done a dozen years ago and certainly not face-to-face.

Having grown up with a few deaf kids, I have seen first hand the misunderstandings that people develop over a lack of verbal response. Most people quickly realize the situation and deal with it gracefully, some will treat the deaf person like a child or as though they are mentally retarded , and few become antagonistic. Present someone with a deaf person and you will see their true colors in their reaction. This clerk should be the designated soap retriever at the local prison

A deaf grandmother and a deaf brother have taught me a lot of things, not the least of which is that people who act/learn/communicate/whatever differently than the majority of the public at large tend to be treaded like morons. If only I were as stupid as my little brother who graduated valedictorian of his high school class, got a bachelors degree in computer science for free on an academic scholarship, and now earns roughly twice what I do. Dumbass.

Dumbass. Ignorance is no excuse but it is a reason (for lack of a better word). One of our pack growing up was a kid who was deaf from birth. He was easily the funniest kid in our entire neighborhood and perhaps the whole school. I'm not sure I would have the same understanding of the deaf if I hadn't grown up with him. He used to take the piss out of everyone in a very smart manner. We'd be rolling while his victim didn't have a clue. It was as if his intelligence was a private joke between us all. Short kids though. *goshdarn* eejits.
