LOL, you must be joking [Politics/Religion]

http://deseretnews.com/ar.../1,5143,695219999,00.htmlPORTLAND, Maine — School officials defended Thursday a decision to allow children as young as 11 to obtain birth-control pills at a middle-school health center, saying the new policy is aimed at a tiny number of ****ually active students.
King Middle School will become the first middle school in Maine, and apparently one of only a few in the nation, to make a full range of contraception available, including birth-control pills and patches.
Students would need parental permission to use the city-run health center in the school, but they wouldn't have to tell them they were seeking birth control. Forget the fact this is birth control as that debate tends to overwhelm the underlying issues. How about schools giving ANY prescription medication to a middle school-aged child without the parents' explicit permission?

I doubt they are giving them the good stuf like oxycoton and what not. Not having a daughter I don't really have a problem with it. I know my wife developed at a young age and was on birth control young to regulate her menstrual cycle. Pretty common practice these days regardless if they are having ****.

Without your knowledge? You're ok with that? If so, I'm fairly well blown away. My child, son or daughter, is not going on prescription meds without my explicit knowledge and approval. End of story.

If you've ever been to Maine this would all make more sense to you. JMHO.

I've never been to Maine. Is it like Stephen King's books but with fewer monsters and more nurses?

I was only referring to birth control as per the article. And I think my child's private parts are their business once I don't have to wipe the *feces* off of them. And taking birth control is much better than having a child right before you enter high school IMO. Besides the article states it is for high school age kids still in middle school and only provided after extensive counseling.

I find myself torn. On one hand, I acknowledge 100% a parent's objection to a child receiving prescription medication without their consent. On the other hand, I recognize that the overwhelming majority of the time a ****ually active child doesn't use birth control is due, at least in part, to parental objection to ****ual activity in the first place and/or inability to have an open and honest discussion with the parent about such things.
The pragmatic side of me says that a parental objection should not be a legitimate blockade to children who are ****ually active having safe and unhindered access to reasonable safer **** methods, including condoms and hormonal birth control. Though I would never advocate the latter being assigned without strict physician oversight.
Then again, I've got a lot of ideas about children, and no actual children of my own around whom to shape those ideas, so perhaps I should simply shut up and go away.

I've never been to Maine. Is it like Stephen King's books but with fewer monsters and more nurses? No, it's like Stephen King books with exactly the same number of monsters and nurses. His *feces* should be in the non-fiction section.
