Halloween Poll- Do you believe in ghosts?
« on: October 26, 2007, 08:28:32 AM » |

Just wondering. Personally, I've experienced some weird stuff in my life, even in my own house, but I tend to be a skeptic with regards to the paranormal. The mrs, on the other hand, absolutely and unequivocally believes in ghosts, goblins, demons, Michael Myerses, CHUDs, and whatnot. Well, maybe not CHUDs.
You?

Hmm...I think I've seen this poll somewhere before. Or maybe I'm just seeing ghosts or something.

I can't take credit for this one. Blatantly ripped off D'News.com comments. One-third of Americans believe in ghosts, one third believe in UFOs and one-third believe President Bush is doing a good job... Hmmm.

My brother is a 100% believer. He has claimed to "see" them a couple of times.
I'm generally skeptical but open-minded. Incident about 10-12 years ago freaked me out as I swear someone was walking around the house but only Susan and I were home.

Same here. My wife believes, I don't.......or at least 99.9999% of me doesn't.
We stayed in an old stone inn about ten years ago. One of those places that dates back to before the revolutionary war. It was the very end of the season and we were the only ones staying there (had to use an about-to-expire certificate we had won at some charity event). Anyway, we walked in and I jokingly asked the innkeeper about the ghosts, and she matter-of-factly said that they never bother anyone. So, I decided to taunt the ghosts, challenging them to show themselves and calling them frauds. It was all in good fun.
That night as i was dozing off in a massive king bed, something hit me in the head so hard I saw stars. I quickly sat up but my wife was on the far side of the bed, her back to me, motionless. Nothing was on the bed. At the time I just blew it off and went to sleep, but to this day I really have no idea what happened. If you ask me what it felt like, it felt like getting slapped hard with the palm of a hand. It wasn't a blunt, hard, object, like a picture fell off the wall and hit me, before falling behind the bed and out of sight.
It could have been my wife, but she she really can't move that fast, and in 15 years of sleeping with her she's never once hit me, not like that anyway (in bed, or otherwise....well, you know what i mean).
Maybe it was the innkeeper, reaching through the wall Scooby Doo style. Or maybe the inn keeper was just in there collecting her video camera after taping us having **** and decided to give me a shot. It could be a lot of things, but what sticks with me is that I can't come up with a theory that would really explain it.
So, no, I don't believe in ghosts, but you never know...

Not sure really. I do like the show ghosthunters and have seen some unexplainable stuff on it. They also seem genuine in that they first try to debunk the claims and only consider stuff they can't. So I can't say that they don't exist.

Sort of a threadjack... I occasionally experience sleep paralysis, and for others who experience this state, they envision an "old hag" or similar apparition sitting on their chests. Thankfully, I've only experienced the milder form of this state and have yet to see the old hag. The most bizarre thing is that this experience is so similar for people across various cultures. So it's not like what people claim to see is influenced by the TV shows they watch, what movies they see, or what books they read.

The only paranormal stuff I've ever witnessed first hand was when I was tripping on acid or doing shrooms.
Onetime, in high school, a bunch of us were sitting out on a golf course doing some mexican giggle weed when we were all convinced we saw a UFO.
These were all extremely 'real' apiritions. I have no doubts whatsoever that they actually occurred.
But I've, personally, never had similar experiences when not in an chemically altered state of consciousness.

I want to believe, but have no absolute proof. Along the lines of believing in God or that Oswald had help. There was something along these lines just now on our local news, most people that believe in ghosts are: 1) Catholic 2) Single and two other things, but I can't remember. If I was JDerion I might be a believer.

Man, I remember hanging out at the golf course to drink when I was in high school. Must have been the in thing in the 80s.

I've never experienced one, and I don't want to either!!! I will always remember in High School, we had a priest giving us a talk, usually these times were the most boring part of school etc, etc. Except for this one time, someone asked him about ghosts etc, and he was telling us about spirits etc, and how one of his other priest friends had done a number of exorcism's. Well for once the class was riveted to the spot.
