WTH?  There was a George Washington dollar coin?  There was a Thomas Jefferson dollar coin?  The Sac-a-whatever is still in circulation?!?

Has anybody actually SEEN any of these coins, other than the Sac?

When I was a kid I had a drawer full of Eisenhower $1 coins, and I have vague recollection of the Susan B. Anthony. Other than that, no.

$1 coins are a PITA. Hell, $1 notes are a PITA. My biggest question: why do they still mint pennies? Can we not round everything up at the cash register to the nearest nickel and put the surplus into the educational system or something? I'd vote for it.

But I digress.

Interestingly enough, and at one time I was going to start a thread, I have been noticing more and more establishments rounding off when giving change. To the customers benefit.

I've always thrown pennies in the cup they typically have next to the register and I am in total agreement with abolishing the penny.

Having done zero research into the pros/cons of such a stand I have only my anecdotal experiences to base my opinion.

Way back, I saw a sign next to the penny cup that read:

Have a penny?  Give a penny.  Need a penny?  Get a job.

Our 1 & 2 cent coins are long gone.
Everything, is rounded up or down.

LOL.

I'm all for abolishing the penny.  I'm not unlike spacey, however, in almost all of my transactions are 1's, and 0's in cyberspace.  The last time I had more than 20 bucks in my pocket was from a casino win.
