When I was in the Navy there were 3 or 4 guys I use to hang out with all the time. Two of them were my roommates in the barracks (even though one moved out to live off base he kept his name on the room so there were only two of us in the room). We did almost everything together, golf, tennis, drinking, partying. Especially when we were in other ports.
But once I got out there was no contact. The ending twist kind of reminds me of a story I read about a guy and an elephant.

I've got a group of really good friends that I've known for years, but we've all kind of scattered around, so it's only a few times a year that we all get together anymore. (I'll see most of them this Friday.) One of them I see once a month or so.
Anymore the guy I spend the most time hanging out with is my older brother. Sort of ironic given I was about 25 before I could stand being in the same room with him.

I've got a few buddies I see every few months. One that I golf with a lot and see more often. Back before kids we got together on a weekly basis but things have definitely changed the past 10-12 years. A couple guys from work I would consider good friends now and would continue to be friends with once this gig is over.
I wouldn't say I have a really close personal friend these days. But that's o.k.

Ferris: Cameron, what have you seen today? Cameron: Nothing good. Ferris: Nothing - wha - what do you mean nothing good? We've seen everything good. We've seen the whole city! We went to a museum, we saw priceless works of art! We ate pancreas! And you got run around with Chewbacca on your back, playing Han Solo!
