Who's your buddy
« on: November 19, 2007, 04:08:53 AM » |

Who here has a buddy or friend that they hang out with, play golf, go out drinking, etc.....? Having moved around alot when I was younger I never really had someone (save for one time in my life) that I called my best friend. I had and have friends but no one that I call on a regular basis. I mostly hang out with family and you can't really open up and let your pants down with family (unless of course you live in Tenn.).

My best friend growing up is still my best friend but he now lives in Denver. I have a few good friends that still live near me which are now our couple friends. We have like 4 good couple friends we hang out with and each of the guys are good friends of mine from some point in my life. My brother would also be my best friend but he lives in Fort Worth now. That is pretty much it now. Lost touch with a bunch of people too.

I'm pretty much identical to 'panky. Don't have a best buddy. The closet thing I have is 2 of Karen's brothers. One for hanging out and drinking beer, the other for hanging out and playing golf. (I still drink the beer but he doesn't.)

I have two work-wives here and keep in touch with my work-wife from my last job. Otherwise, I have no close friends here and I'm pretty poor about keeping in touch once I move away, which seems to happen once every 7-8 years or less.

I have good friends (about 6) that I hang out and drink with, I have a few friends that I golf with (and drink), and a few co-worker/friends that I lunch and happy hour with. Most of the friends I had from years ago (high school, college, former co-workers) I have lost touch with. I'm not good at staying in touch with people after moving on/away.

My BFF right now is Blader Jr. At 12, he's way ahead of the curve in terms of interests and maturity--and I meet him about half way because I'm way behind the curve.
We hang out together a lot--in sports bars, on the golf course, watching tv sports and Discovery Channel shows. He and I like to cook up kitchen 'creations' together. Stuff like that. I coach his baseball teams, which runs from February through July now, and that's a several days a week. When his sister and mother go off to the beach for spring break, he and I have gone camping or on a golf expedition.
My only regret is he's still a bit too young to try some of the really nice beers I sample when we're out having some hot wings and queso together. Or to hit on a table full of good looking girls. Other than that he's just about like any other BFF I've ever had.

I just saw Nichole, my best friend of 16/17 years, yesterday. Went to church, then out to lunch with a few others in our college and career class, then a last minute decision to head to the library since it was on the way home anyway, then we chatted at my house 'til she had to head home. I also have 2 other friends that I'm pretty close to, too, but we don't see each other or talk very often. Then, of course, I would also call Kev one of my best buds! We were always close growing up. I started golfing 'cause he enjoyed it so. We're quite coordinated when it comes to team sports. He's a great brother!

My close friends from 20 years ago are still my close friends, though we talk on the phone more than we see each other in person, given I live 1000 miles from them. One of my dear friends from high school lives 10 minutes from me. We get together with her and her husband every couple of months for dinner.
I've only been in GA for 5 years and have been working too much. The 2 guys I spend the most time with are 15-20 years older than I, one being a colleague and the other a client. Spending the most time with them is equivalent to 3-4 rounds of golf per year, a few nice dinners, a trip or two to the cigar store (so I can stock-up my client's humidor), and a few tradeshows a year.
When I have free time, I'd rather spend it with my family.

When I was in the Navy there were 3 or 4 guys I use to hang out with all the time. Two of them were my roommates in the barracks (even though one moved out to live off base he kept his name on the room so there were only two of us in the room). We did almost everything together, golf, tennis, drinking, partying. Especially when we were in other ports.
But once I got out there was no contact.

Guys that I was stationed w/ at Langley AFB. A lot of us separated from the USAF in the mid 90s, but a lot of us stayed in the local area.
