Don't forget the TV timeouts. (lame) If you come at it from the perspective of soccer, it's a boring game with lots of interruptions. Other than the interruptions, then, ...  No, I don't come from the perspective of soccer (boring........sorry UB  ), I tend to watch more Rugby League which has a more of a flow to the game. |

Nothing clothes/drinking related but I do remember never moving from a particular chair/sofa while watching games. Thinking if I moved while they were doing well they'd end up getting beat. It was a bit OCD as I remember.
Then the '98 Vikings came along and kicked me hard in the nuts. Since then I've put "my" sports teams in perspective. I have fun when I watch them but I'm not caught up enough to have any superstitions.
I'm similar to Fuzzy. I enjoy watching sports, but don't live or die by them anymore. My sports nutkicking moment came in the 1992 NLCS with Sid Bream slowly, painfully reaching home to beat the Pirates. |

Impressive.  I'm not quite in your league. Me: Vikings jersey. Corresponding home/away. #26 Smith. Vikings can/bottle coozie. Hat: rare, but at times, baseball style. Black, Viking logo. How many years have you been doing this?  |

American football, is more of a battle with generals and soldiers. A plan is made. It is relayed to the troops, and a small battle takes place, trying to achieve the objective. As soon as the skirmish is settled, the troops fall back, regroup and for a plan for the next attack. . A drawn out productin. Especially in the big money driven NFL. (The games is stopped a lot as Clive said for what they call "tv timeouts" . They literally stop the game, everyone stands around, while the commercials are shown for us at home. Not as much free flowing "sport" ........

I PVR football games I really want to watch and skip the commercials and half-time. Can watch a game in about 90 minutes no problem. Funny how we all see things differently. Soccer is essentially non-stop action yet baseball fans will call it boring. They also say there's not enough scoring when a no-hitter is baseball manna from heaven.  Football is full of interruptions yet most here (including me) find it very compelling. Hockey is non-stop action albeit light on scoring and it can't really get its foot in the door in the USA (compared to the big three). Basketball, for me, simply has too much scoring. It's only compelling when it comes down to the last few minutes of a game and the score is close. Other than that it's a endless display of buckets and at the NBA level nothing but one-on-one showboating.  Rugby Union and GAA are among the best TV sports out there but at last count only about 17 Americans have Setanta. This is where I usually insert my "Americans don't like sports not invented here" theory.  I watch AFL for the men in tight shorts. Haven't a clue WTF is going on with the game itself.  |

This is where I usually insert my "Americans don't like sports not invented here" theory. back in the glory days of cable hdtv (aka 2004-2005... lol) when inhd and inhd2 were separate before becoming mojo (which still has some great shows, but not enough sports!!!) they had rugby 7's cricket and occasionally some soccer that, and the lingerie bowl.  |

No superstitions for me. If I have a team shirt, I like to wear it. Sometimes, I'll wear a cap if I have one. Neither is mandatory, though.
On any given Sunday, I could be cheering my team on in brocade or sweats.
