Stack & Tilt
« on: December 16, 2007, 12:33:28 PM » |

When I was at the Golf Coast, I had a golf lesson. (about time) The swing the pro showed me was basically stack and tilt, keep the head still over the ball, but start off with more weight on your left knee, and on the back swing, still have weight on the back knee. I have been having great success with this new swing, does anybody else here use this swing.

The good thing about getting old, is that you can hit the ball out of sight.

There was a pretty good article on this swing in either Golf or Golf Digest magazine a few months ago. I've tried it a few times and it seems to have potential. I need to find someone that teaches it properly before I commit. So far, I haven't found anyone local who does. Let us know how it goes, good luck!

I browsed the article about it, but I don't really understand exactly what "stack and tilt" means.
To me it just looked weird in the pictures, but I think they were exaggerating the positions. There must be more to it than just not shifting the weight to the trailing foot during the backswing. I'm not sure I understand the supposed advantage of that, either, unless it's just to help make sure you get back to exactly where you started.
Can anybody enlighten me?

To me it solely purpose is to MAKES you create the ideal impact position + posture everytime.
According to most non-S&T instruction, at the point of impact.... (and if you are a righty)
Weight shifted to left leg Right side of hip and higher than left side of hip hip's open to target approach the ball with a decending angle release club the club according to body turn
In convention swing, we have been taught to add these elements into our swing
But in S&T, it MAKES you to do all these. Which mean if you execute a S&T correctly, all of above element will just fall in their place without trying to manuipulating. Which suppose to make your swing much easier to excute a good result, and much, much more repeatable.

i still have no idea what this garbage is. Ditto. If I start thinking about making my body do certain things I'm toast. One thing at a time please and make it about feel not body parts. I think *maybe* I'm actually doing a bunch of S&T stuff (on my good strikes anyway) but the last thing I want to do is think about it.

I don't think I'm limber enough to even try it. Then again, maybe I already do it. I really have no idea.

This topic was the tinder to a huge civil war at another golf forum.
And this is in the wrong section.

No point to start a war about different swing methology really. Bottom line is, *I believe* there's only one good impact position, no matter how you do it before or after. There are many different thing you can achieve to get into that impact position. Whatever works for you afterall

I think the goal of the S&T is to keep your head position more consistent and centered over the ball by eliminating the weight shift to the rear foot on the backswing. Theoretically, it should reduce fat and thin shots normally caused by too much head movement.
