AFC Playoff Picture: Too Early To Predict?
« on: December 16, 2007, 02:27:17 PM »

With two games left in the season ...

Division Winners:
East: New England (14-0), clinched division and probably home-field throughout playoffs.
West: San Diego (8-5); with a 2.5-game lead on DEN, it seems locked up.  They'd have to lose out, and then in gets to winning percentage in common games.
South: Indianapolis Colts (11-2); locked up division and all but clinched #2 seed.
North: Pittsburgh Steelers (9-5); beat CLE (9-5) in both meetings.  CLE can take the division ONLY if [PIT loses out + CLE wins one] or [CLE wins out + PIT loses one].

Wild Cards:
JAX at 10-4 -- OAK (4-9) and @HOU (7-7) next.
CLE at 9-5 -- @CIN (5-9) and SF (4-10) next.

HOU at 8-6 -- @IND (11-2) and JAX (10-4) next.  Good luck with that.
TEN at 8-6 -- NYJ (a tough 3-10) and @IND (11-2) next.

Can anyone bump JAX and CLE out of the wild-card spots?
If CLE does win out to take the North, does PIT even make the playoffs at 9-7?  I don't think HOU can go 10-6 to edge them; at 9-7 with them, PIT wins the tiebreaker.  If TEN gets to 9-7, PIT wins the tiebreaker.  I think that unless TEN wins out, PIT makes the payoffs, at least as a wild-card.

It gets way too complicated to figure out the JAX/TEN/HOU/CLE wild-card scenarios, though, it PIT wins the North.

Soon to be your local trash man.

I don't play golf anymore.   Well, maybe I do sort of.  I quit keeping score, started drinkning beer and I started playing better.

IND didn't look too good today. OAK played tough defense and moved the ball pretty well. If not for a missed PI call on IND (which looked pretty damn obvious on replay), the Raiders could have tied the game late in the 4th period.
