strohby, how many Brunswicks are there in this country? Good point. Just seemed to me (from as far as I could make it in the article) that Brunswick people couldn't even be bothered to crush an aluminum can, and all jet around in Ford Expeditions. Fair enough, but my first thought was I bet I see more petrol wasted just on the local law enforcement here running their vehicles non-stop through the winter, than Billy-Bob could ever burn pickin' up his cousin' in a bored big block 350. I guess you're right though.

I work from home and my car doesn't move for days on end. I'm an eco-hero.
On the other hand, probably about 60% of my driving is for golf and snowboarding. Clearly, I don't care about the planet.
I plan on hand-washing my underwear with sand and recycled pond water to make up for it.

I plan on hand-washing my underwear with sand and recycled pond water to make up for it. At least the stains will be more uniform. FWIW, we try to be smart about bundling errands, taking the Prius or Speed Triple instead of the Forester, using greener laundry and household cleaners (that go down the drain and do end up somewhere), etc. But at least one adult in my household is not an eco-weenie whack-job.

here are some ways we have (and still are) worked hard at cutting back bus/shuttles where possible walk where possible combine errands/trips in car check tire pressure more often thermostat low/high as is bearable refridge/freezer as high as is bearable shortened shower length decreases shower temperature less dishwasher use hand dishwashing with only cold water more full loads for laundry higher efficiency lights as much local food as possible (on our budget) cooking far less 'long time' meals (turkeys, roasts, etc) hand chopping/cutting and mixing/stirring everything possible charging cell phone in car when possible low power dlp in place of plasma turning off the computer when not in use turning off xbox360 when not in use turning off hd-dvd when not in use recycling everything possible in our area reading more during daylight hours than night not much, but a good start.
