2008 banished words
« on: December 31, 2007, 03:23:01 PM » |

http://www.startribune.com/local/12941401.htmlOrganic, webinar, "a perfect storm" and "it is what it is" -- they are among the words and phrases that send shivers up and down the spines of English language purists who say they are overused, misused, have no use, and should be banned. The 19 words and phrases included on the 2008 List of Words Banished came from more than 2,000 nominations sent to Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., which has been publishing its list of affronts to the English language for 33 years............ Link to the list: http://www.lssu.edu/banished/current.php

I'm sick of the phrase "it is what it is". And I used it yesterday for the first time. My wife looked at me like I was crazy, and my eyes widened in amazement! I couldn't believe I had actually used that phrase.

I'm sick of the phrase "it is what it is".
As opposed to Zappa writing "What you is is what you is" which was just a great line, the next person that says to my face "it is what it is" I'm gonna give them the Moe Howard bitch slap. And if they say "it is what it is dude" I may just have to kill them.
