http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/story/10652300unless i had THE #1,2,or 3 pick in the draft, I would seriously consider Barber for that sacrifice of a 1st and 3rd if I desperately need a RB. definitely one of the top 5 in the league at his position, something you have no guarantee of when drafting anyone outside of those 1,2,3 range (and even then, it doesn't always pan out)

Agreed.
We need a receiver. Preferably one that can catch footballs.

I think I'm actually on the other side on this one. RB's can be found - hello Ryan Grant. A 1st and 3rd are two starters.
I may do it if my 1st rounder was late but I'm guessing Dallas would want more.

good running backs are typically 'found' . 'great/elite' backs typically not so much. i'd put barber as 1 season away from that level. perhaps it depends on how you assess his value at this point. he initiates contact, is a phenomenal blocker, reads cutbacks well, and is almost unstoppable inside the 5. he's exactly the type of RB that can possibly still produce and help a team that is rebuilding on the OL, for example. i will concede all his career stats are basically while on split carry duty. perhaps as a feature back he would decline due to more energy burned and more contact, but it's hard to call. i will also concede he does not have homerun speed that most prototypical RBs should have, but his ability to extend plays off the swing/screen pass combined with his size/strength over cornerbacks at least partially offsets this because safeties have to cheat a bit in tackling support.... anyways, i guess my point is if I had the 10-15 pick, and was going to draft a RB, i'd REALLLLY consider just signing barber and dumping the 3rd round pick. he also has about 550 career touches with only 6 fumbles- none of which were actually lost.

Agree with this premise. I'd probably do the same. It's just that there have been too many RB's who have 3-5 years and that's it. I'm in the camp that they are somewhat easily replaceable and good ones are out there in sufficient quantity. I know this is sacrilege on this board (hi Torp!) but Chester Taylor, Ryan Grant, etc. are perfect examples of why spending a lot for an RB doesn't have to be a priority. Now.........all bets are off on the elite Tomlinson, Peterson types. Its just that they are few and far between.
