[cross posted from elsewhere on the intertbes]
Colleages-

Last night I was working on a crcial MS EXCEL spreadsheet on my windows xp system dring an Important Chataqa that involved EXTREMELY attractive but flly clothed waitresses attending to or every need dring tense deliberations and negotiations, when, after a toast amongst my fellows with a shot of Jeagermeister (ok, quite a few toasts) I inexplicably and withot warning closed ot the excel file withot first saving it---losing abot 3 hrs of valable and EXTREMELY RGENT data that I'd been ptting into the spread sheet dring said Chataqa.

I need this work in the most desperate way

My two qestions to yo are the following:

1)Is there some "temporary" automatically saved file of this spreadsheet someplace on my hard drive? yo know, that file that pops back p when recovering from a crash?
2) Where might I go search for said "temporary" atomatically saved file?
3) Is there a relationship between this disaster and the fact that my "yoo" key on the keyboard no longer fnctions correctly?

-advanced blessings for sccess of yor next jihad in recompense for yor rgently needed help

In my experience Office will save a temporary file while you're working but typically once the application is closed the temp file disappears. I've occasionally had an application ask me if I wish to restore the file I was working on when I relaunch, but not always.

I don't know what folder you would look in for the temp file as it will vary from set up to set up. I'd suggest doing a search of your hard drive for ".xls" and/or ".tmp" file extensions to see if it comes up. Otherwise you might just be screwed.

As for your U key, I'd suggest sorcery to be in play. Black metal from the coldest, most remote portions of Europe might offer a solution. If only there were an expert on such things.
