Got any ideas for a chatroom replacement? I haven't looked in a while, but it's been a year, so I'm sure there are better ones around these days. I don't have a lot of time these days to investigate, but if you find one you like, post a link here and I'll install it. (this server is set up for php, mysql, or jsp). We could also link to a chatroom hosted elsewhere which is popular these days. |

Nice.  phpopenchat looks good. I'll work on it later today. Looks different than phpfreechat. Although I noticed that phpfreechat has had several releases since we tried it out and rejected it. So if we don't like phpopenchat, we can give phpfreechat another try. |

Hmm, not much luck with phpopenchat. I installed it on my local machine, but couldn't get it to work. It looks like the latest version is from Mar 17. 2005, so I don't like my chances.
I'm going to look at phpfreechat now, it's up to release 1.1. The last time we looked at it, it was at 1.0-beta8.

OK, phpfreechat is now running. I haven't done any customizations. I'll wait to see how it performs first.
Let me know what you think after the next chat session. Especially if it's better or worse than the x7chat room.

I just made a couple of changes to chat:
- disabled the language censor
- removed the backlog history (when you first entered you used to be able to see the last 20 lines people were talking about before you entered)
- disabled ability to change username
- decreased the size of some of the fonts
- increased the size of the "Send" button
Still researching:
- I didn't see an easy way to allow people to adjust the vertical height. Will keep looking, but it looks like it's written so that the #lines to display has to be the same for each user
- didn't find any themes with a black background and white/light text. I did find another theme that isn't bad. You can view that under "Chat B"
