http://arstechnica.com/ne...music-retailer-in-us.htmlApple #1 in retail music sales. Imagine how you would have been laughed at saying that 10 years ago. This is the bit that struck me. According to NPD's research, 48 percent of US teens didn't buy a single CD in 2007, compared to 38 percent in 2006. Also this. Buying patterns for digital downloads are different, as customers are far more likely to cherry pick a favorite track or two from an album than purchase the whole thing. Pretty much a Capt. Obvious moment but I wanted to paraphrase Aske - craptastic filler tracks ftl.

I'll admit to using I-tunes as one of the sources I use to acquire music. Generally, if I buy something though I buy the whole album. My wife is more apt to buy a single or two off an album. 9.99 isn't bad for a new cd not to mention the time saved. I still check out the local record stores for used cd's especially the more obscure ones.

I rarely download whole CD's.
I just look at my kids and realize they are already at the point where CD's to them are like vinyl to me.

When I see this, it just reminds me of the whys and the hows of why I have been looking for work for one year now (one *goshdarn* year ), kinda like the theory of trickle down economics. This is essentially the effect, the cause was poor leadership and a lack of a little clairvoyance (if you follow). Less people buying cd's + less people listening to the radio = Seamus out of a jog squared.

Clear Channel effect - Yes. One thousand times yes in this market at least. artistic vision and talent I would tend to disagree only due to the fact of the Clear Channel effect. How would one know this if all they have is the crap served up daily on the radio. I tend to believe the artists and talent are out there. It's just not as accessible.

Don't forget P2P as well is the 'success' of ITMS/amazon/etc so far proof that people are willing to pay a 'fair' amount for the songs they actually want?
