Ever Been In A Car Accident With Kids In The Car?
« on: April 04, 2008, 10:04:26 AM » |

I got hit yesterday while taking my 3-year-old to preschool. First time as an adult that I've ever had an accident with another human in the car.(*) All I could think about was getting into the back seat and making sure there was no injury/trauma. Didn't even have attention enough to get angry.
(*) = Got hit broadside in Oregon years ago with both dogs in the back. Been involved in two MVAs as a child with someone else driving. Those don't count.

Yikes. Thankfully everyone is o.k. Agreed. Topic: No. (knock knock) Was it the Subaru? They're supposed to be plenty safe. Gay, but plenty safe.

I've never been in an accident with another human in the car. I pinned a kid under the front bumper once though.

No injuries, no major tears shed. Future looks dodgy, though, as the driver's information isn't checking out. Stroh: it was the virgin Prius. No airbags deployed during the filming of the accident (deceleration wasn't great enough, I guess).

I got rear-ended in a 3-car accident about 10 months ago while taking my 3-year old daughter to school. These tow-truck drivers that appeared to work for Caltrans (CA DOT) showed up and contacted CHP. The accident happened on a highway off-ramp and it was slowing traffic somewhat, so CHP instructed the tow-truck drivers to lead us to a designated location where an officer would meet us. One of the *fudge*head tow-truck drivers didn't know which direction to go, and started leading two of us in the wrong direction. One of the drivers that was following the knucklehead was in the last car involved in the accident (i.e. the "at fault" driver). Take a wild guess whether or not the at-fault driver ever made it to the designated location. End result: $750 out-of-pocket deductible payment because it was deemed a "hit and run".

I've been "the kid" in the car twice. Once we were on our way to visit some relatives in Michigan. I don't remember anything about that one - way too young - but I think I have heard a reference to being rear-ended. The other time was on the way home from my grandmother's after my parents had spent the evening celebrating their anniversary. I was 4 and Kev was 2. We were stopped and waiting to turn when we were (again?) rear-ended by a drunk driver. Kev and I were usually in the backseat, but that night we were in the front. Where I would have been sitting had the metal bumper of the station wagon poking through the backseat and Kev's booster seat was covered with glass. Even though it didn't "seem" like either of us suffered much (physically) from the crash at the time and even a few years after, it became evident that we were hurt more than initially thought. Now, my back tends to get very sore if I go longer than 1.5 months without an adjustment.

No injuries, no major tears shed.
I've very sorry to hear about the accident, but the above is the most important part. Hopefully, no injuries will show up in the years to come, either.

The only major car accident I was in some uninsured S.O.B. rear-ended my ex-boyfriend and I in his truck. The S.O.B. was going about 40 and we were at a stop light. I hit my head on the back window of the pick up truck, luckily I didn't break the window. I've had problems with my neck and back every since (that was 17 years ago!) In regards to having the kids in the car, knock on wood, I have not been hit. However every time I was pregnant I got bumped. With the first some guy left an impression of the screw that held his license plate on, on my bumper. With the second one, someone backed into me, just bumped me and then with the last one, I got rear-ended. Luckily they weren't outside of a safe environment when I got hit. I tell you, seeing people's faces when a pregnant woman gets out of a car after you hit them is kind of funny.

I tell you, seeing people's faces when a pregnant woman gets out of a car after you hit them is kind of funny. The other driver paled when he realized I had a child in the car. I didn't mention that I'm a lawyer.
