This is all from my memory so the details may be out of sync. Yes he went into a couple of year funk where he was battling depression and anxiety and wasn't sure what he wanted to do with his life or more so who he wanted in control of it. The life David Duval wanted didn't seem to mesh with the tour lifestyle and commitments.
Then when he decided that golf was what he wanted to do, which was years ago, he had lost his swing. There also was the bout with vertigo that almost did him in completely. he also had a back injury that had him side lined for a whole season.
He went through a 5 year stretch where he couldn't hit the ball straight inside a sewer pipe. He tried everything, different instructors shrinks the whole enchilada. for the past 4-5 years he has been about as passionate about the game of golf as anyone and got absolutely nothing out of it till now. Every time he thought he was close to having it back it would disappear as fast as it came.
After watching him this week i will have to say he looked pretty comfortable in his own skin for the first time in a long time and his swing looks very solid. Up until this week, he would go through a bad stretch of holes and then press the issue and go straight into the tank.
It was good to see him play well.
