What's in a name??....
« on: April 10, 2008, 02:47:13 PM » |

Friday April 11, 2008 A campaign has been launched in the historic village of Lunt in Britain to change its name because vandals keep defacing road signs. But the proposal is dividing villagers who say they should not have to give up a name that has been around since the 13th century.

As if changing the name would keep vandals from defacing the road signs?

As if changing the name would keep vandals from defacing the road signs? Some words require more creativity than others to vandalize in a meaningful manner.

Maybe so, and I did realize that, but that doesn't mean they will stop. Really, when people want to wreck things, they'll put their minds to it and find something.

Actually, have you ever given a great amount of thought to how much your name really is a part of you? Maybe there are some of you who have thought that a much better name would suit you, but then I'm not really referring to those of you. During my senior year, a daughter of my mom's friend needed to interview someone 18 or under for one of her college courses. We hadn't been acquainted before, so I met the qualifications needed for the young person she was to interview. (We're now friends.) She asked me to choose the pseudonym I was to have in her report, and I was a bit surprised at how much time it took me. I wanted something that suited me, and the more I thought about it, the more I was unsatisfied with those that I was considering. I had about a week to spare by the time I finally picked one, and we had been conversing for months. Interestingly enough (to me anyway), is that I wouldn't choose that name today because I don't think it suits me any longer. Anyway, before that, I knew that my name was a part of me, but never gave much thought to how much so. The conclusion I came to was that I really like the name my parents gave me.

I'd change my name to Tom Brady. Maybe Troy Peterson.
