Plus the Depot/Lowe's store set-up is teh sukk. I prefer OSH. little far to drive for me. our local hd is a firm believer in the self service concept. never and i mean never more than one register open. i don't mind using the u-scan if i have a couple of small items but i draw the line there.

I hate those things too - the only info I will give up during a transaction is my ZIP code. I figure whatever it takes to keep or get a store closer to me the better. Other than that I answer "NO" to the can I have your phone number and such questions.
The clerks will sometimes give me a strange look about it, but never persist. I guess they are used to people just willingly giving up the info, and think it rude to refuse. Well, I think it rude to ask - so I don't feel bad at all.
They'll tell you its to better serve you - to collect demographics on purchases helps them modify the products they offer to better fulfill customer needs, etc. It also helps them understand who to market and advertise too. I still don't care - what little privacy I have left is mine.
