I'm not sure what to think really.  Obama/Clinton may be the dems best chance.  I'd much prefer an Obama/Edwards ticket however.  I just want a dem in the whitehouse and I hope Billary's futile attempt to drag this out way too long doesn't ruin that.

nah, he's not electable either in the current  {and impending} economic climate.

i cant wait to see him get pwn3d in the debates with obama, if he even has the guts to sign up.

We'll see.  I think a white male centrist is a crucial must somewhere on the Dem ticket.  Just like I feel a centrist short of 65 years of age is a crucial must on the Rep ticket.  If one party does that and the other doesn't they'll win.

Does Hillary really want to wait eight years for her turn?  I reckon it depends on what she thinks of Obama's chances in turning things around through his first term.

If she takes the VP and they don't get anything significant accomplished first-term, she too will be saddled with the "same old political *feces* -- didn't do anything for me" label.  Hard to run a Make A Change campaign with that albatross.

That's what I'm saying.  If she thinks he's a one-term president she's better off staying away.

Not sure about the debates. I've watched Obama and he is much better at speeches. His debates have been average at best. Not saying he doesn't beat McCain but it's an area of improvement for him.

Hillary needs to make a graceful exit now. If she some how, some way gets the nomination it will be seen by a large portion of the populace as stealing. This whole "I'm more electable, let the superdelegates decide" is more  Shocked than the Bush-Gore Florida fiasco.

I think she won't get the chance to be VP because I don't believe it will be offered. I agree that a white male centrist would be an excellent choice for Obama. Plus she wants/needs the top spot so a graceful exit after a hard fought campaign (and working to unite the party) will serve her better 4-8 years down the road.

I suspect the Veep choice will be a relative non-entity, from a 'Purple' or outright red state, more hawkish and socially conservative than the presumptive nominee. He   will also be very, very white.

Jim Webb leaps to mind, although I'm not sure he'd take it. It would be funny if Faux News got to attack a former Reagan Administration SecNav for (among other things) trying to get a gun into the Congressional offices...

I call it my deserted island theory.

Imagine you've been stranded on an island for 30 years. One day you're miraculously rescued by a passing ship. In conversation the captain tells you that the American presidential election is tomorrow, and he tells you to make a pick. The candidates are a black guy (or a white woman) vs. a crusty old white war hero.

Who are you picking?

IIRC, you called '04 for Kerry... Grin

It's pretty simple: You just keep playing the audio clip of McCain saying 'We'll be in Iraq 100 years, maybe 1,000 followed by the one where he says 'The Economy isn't my bag, baby' under this picture:

JDerion, September 8, 2004:
Quote
....However, Kerry won't take him to task on this just as he lets all the other attacks go unanswered. Cheney and Bush have crossed the line many times, and will continue to do so, because Kerry lacks the balls to fire back. And that has been Kerry's turning point. The only thing Kerry had to do to win this race was show the American people that he was tough, and would stand up for himself and fight. He could beat Bush on almost every other issue. In failing to defend himself from fairly simplistic attacks, he's left a lot of doubt in many minds that he will fare any better in defending the country. It's not often one gets the chance to run against an extremely vulnerable incumbent, but Kerry had that chance and at this point I think he has blown it. IMO, Kerry has not shown that he would be a good President, and even though we have a bad President in office, it's always on the challenger to provide a compelling reason to remove the incumbent. Kerry has failed to do so, and it's getting too late to fix the damage that has been done.

I think this thing is over.

LOL, do you have the whole frickin' board archived at Casa Derion? If so, I'd really like to revisit some of the 2002 and 2003 threads...

Seriously, both parties have reverted to form: The Republicans picked the next guy in line, and the Dems have picked the guy with the best hair and teeth.

November's a long, long way off

I'm sure I did call Kerry in the early going. No doubt I was calling for a Bush defeat, even before we knew who he'd be running against. It did seem inconceivable that Bush would be reelected, and at first blush Kerry seemed to be a viable candidate. There was a lot of water under the bridge when I made that post with two months to go.

No, I don't have the board archived, but I did remember making that post. Kerry frustrated the hell out of me, and at that point I remember throwing my hands up when the writing on the wall started to become very clear.

I've been on the Obama bandwagon for a long time; probably since it first became clear he was going to throw his hat in the ring. Add to that my strong dislike for Hillary (and I know I was consistent on that back in the FGI days!) and this race has not been one that has caused me any second thoughts about that choice. But I'm not overly optimistic about what is coming down the pike. I think we're in for a very frustrating summer as we begin to hear people around us find reasons to play it safe with the old, white, war hero.

The only hope lies in new voters and big turnout, or a big time McCain *fudge* up. That's my call right now as much as it pains me to say it.

Do you remember when you posed the question about whether or not somebody would make an attempt on Obama's life should he win the presidency? Is there any better way to prevent that from happening than having Clinton as VP?
