Is anyone else looking forward to this movie? I am hoping this will be better then Phantom Menace. I am sure it will be.
Next question is will it be a huge hit?

Anything has to be better than Phantom Menace, the three recent "Star Wars" movies and possibly Jedi were an insult What the hell was Jar Jar Binks meant to be?? Now's there's a character that adds no value. I was also bitterly dissapointed that Boba Fett turned out to be a New Zealander and the bloke that played Uncle Owen,... he's a twat. "Indian Jones, by the Power of Greyskull" is sure to be a hit

Looking forward to it, but it just got a scathing review in today's WSJ. Gonna see it anyway.

It got a 78% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. WTF does the WSJ know about movies? They barely know *feces* about stocks.

The local paper has a pretty luke-warm review too, but that guy's a pompous windbag. I'm excited for it, but perhaps not as excited as Laura is.

I'm excited based on pure nostalgia. Might actually make it my first movie to see in the theatre in years. Maybe today as the Mrs and I decided to play hookey.

I'm excited based on pure nostalgia.
Based on the reviews I've been reading/hearing, that is precisely why people are leaving the theater feeling let down. The assertion, it seems, is that our memories of the movies are better than the movies actually are. One review I saw actually went so far as to say that is why the Star Wars prequels were a let down. (In reality, we all realize that they were a let down because they were *feces*ty movies, but I understand the point- overly high expectations mixed with a simply adequate movie will always lead to a not-so-fresh feeling cinematic experience.) I have advised Laura to go into it expecting to be disappointed. That way she won't be let down, but she might also be pleasantly surprised. I also suggested she keep that same attitude about the new Indiana Jones movie.

i rewatched the early trilogy this week on usa-hd/ sci-fi hd.
summary of nostalgia/more critical 'grown up' analysis (i had last seen these about 15 years ago)
i remembered really liking the 3rd one more than the 1st, and thinking the 2nd one was quasi-comical in its attempt to be dark while coming off very campish.
now, i feel the 1st is far far better than either, while the 3rd actually comes off as equal to if not far more a parody and campy dreck than the 2nd thanks to the ridiculously over-the-top anti-nazism, pro-judeo/xtian moralism, and ridiculous try-too-hard-to-look-like-you-arent-trying performances of sean connery and denholm elliott. at least in temple of doom the corny jokes worked between indy and mola ram, and the annoying performance of short round is kind of acceptable since he's a kid.

I liked Temple of Doom when I first saw it in the theater as a kid. It has not held up well in subsequent viewings, and anymore, with the exception of a couple of great scenes, I consider it nearly unwatchable. I also remembered thinking Last Crusade was better than Raiders upon first viewing, but my opinion on that has shifted and I now consider the first to be the best of the series, by a long shot. Though I did enjoy Connery's performance in the third.
One of the local critics (who is a self-avowed geek, and with whom I generally tend to side on these types of movies) said this one is about on par with The Last Crusade- not great, but not terrible. He also said it almost seemed like a torch-passing to Shia LaBeouf. Apparently there is discussion about a spin-off series?
