The Floppy - Indoor practice ball
« on: December 07, 2006, 06:13:21 PM »

I've seen the Birdie ball and AlmostGolf balls, but this practice ball looks kind of interesting because it's intended for indoor use.

I've used foam balls inside, but they just didn't feel right.  If this ball actually has any kind of feel it could be pretty cool.

I'm always getting in trouble for chipping real balls onto the couch in the living room. This might be a good investment for my marriage.

I'm tempted to throw some Google ads on this site and see if we can get enough ad revenue to buy a box of these and send a couple Floppy balls to any GolfHos that are snowed in for the winter for them to evaluate and practice with.

Actually, even though we don't have many members, with all the spiders crawling around here, we're starting to get enough random traffic from search engines now to get a little ad revenue here if we wanted to.

I've been playing around with the idea that this site be run like a co-op where instead of the ad revenue going directly to an unknown company like Active, it would just go toward buying demo clubs to pass around or products to try out for the members.

I have friends who get enough Adsense money from their blogs that they could run a nice club demo program.  I don't know if ads on this site would be enough at this stage, but it could be a fun experiment.  Many of you use AdBlock anyway, and I was picturing a small ad for members that are logged in, but a larger ad for lurkers that haven't logged in.

I'm just brainstorming and thinking out loud at this point, but what do folks think of this idea?

Exactly.  I figured most here would already have them blocked, but the visitors coming from a search engine might not.

The funny thing is that I found the Floppy Ball site through an ad on a blog I was reading, and it was the first time I'd clicked on an ad in a while, which kind of surprised me.

I made a first attempt at adding ads, but they'll definitely need a lot of tweaking to get them right.

Just an update on the ad experiment.  We're averaging about 20 cents a day on this site.  So at this rate, by the time we get enough, maybe we can send the Floppy Balls to the last one of us still living.
