http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25379642“The evidence is mounting that the conversation itself is the risk, not holding the phone,” says Russ Rader of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. “The research shows the risk of having an accident is about four times higher for drivers using cell phones, whether it’s handheld or hands-free.”

This puts me in a tough spot. IIHS has a long history of skewing their motorcycle-related studies; to anyone who digs into them, it becomes apparent that IIHS arrived at a conclusion, then drew a study designed to get there. So when I now find myself agreeing with their report, I have a hard time not automatically assuming they have an agenda in mind and this data review wasn't objectively/scientifically performed.

IIHS shills for the insurance industry. They decide what they want the "scientific study" to conclude, then they design the study to lead to that conclusion. And voila! "Science" supports their agenda. Whenever they announce any conclusion, I immediate suspect it's junk science.
Here, I agree with their conclusion. But I can't embrace it because I'm too busy wondering if it's really objective and what bull*feces* the insurance industry plans to pull, using this study as its support.
And stroh is a *humid grotto*.

Sorry Clive, I drive for a living, and I see first-hand how distracted people talking on cell phones really are. No scientific proof, just my observations.

I agree with it, too. But our casual observations are more scientific than IIHS studies usually are.

Disclaimer: I don't currently own a cell phone.
I see and agree with what you are saying Clive.
But I'll tell ya, I'm so tired of watching these assclowns every day driving like idiots and every time I get close to them: Ah, of course. You're on the *goshdarn* phone.
Yesterday some dip*feces* (oncoming) was all the way in my lane. Dialing. He finally realized it when I moved over to the shoulder and he yanked the wheel, but never stopped dialing. (or even worse, *fudge*er was probably texting)
