Gift for a 2 year old girl?

One of my good friend's daughters is turning 2 and we're going to a party for her in a couple of weeks. What does one buy for a 2 year old girl these days?

Itunes gift card? I have no idea what a 2 year old girl would want despite owning a near 2 year old boy myself. Although he looks girlish with his flowing locks and big blue eyes, he is all boy when it comes to toys. He plays with toy cars and trucks constantly and loves to wrestle. I imagine doll like things would be good. Perhaps a Dora the Explorer DVD or paraphanelia.

Whatever you get her she'll take the box and turn it into a playhouse/kitchen/vehicle and use it more than the actual gift inside. If you walk down the aisle at your local store that carries toys, anything Fisher-Price will probably work nicely for a two year old.

Depending on your relationship with the parents, I'd be wary of anything that makes noise.
Second Fuzzy on anything F.P. or look for a "baby".

Get her makeup. I hear they are starting to do that younger every year. She could start a trend.
That or a cell phone.

Considering also that they're the type who will never forget and are likely to repay the favor exponentially, we'll not be buying anything that has potential for annoyance. I know she's pretty big on Elmo, but I just can't bring myself to it. I proposed a roll of quarters, you know so she can just buy something for herself, but the wife says that's probably not a good idea.

I think she has one of those things, I'll have to figure out which one. That's the other thing I failed to mention, this child has everything.

That's the other thing I failed to mention, this child has everything. Not to sound Phileo-esque, but ... then get her something that doesn't set you back too much. She likely won't play with it amidst the rubble, anyway. My niece was huge into The Wiggles (we hate them), any toy that blinked and made noise (we hate them), and was getting into Dora and Barbie (we're OK with them, although I think Barbie has kind of a trampy vibe). At the risk of starting her on that dark, humid road to lesbianism, how about a soccer ball or something that actually requires some physical activity?

Probably frowned on by the parents though. Clive does have a point. What about a set of small plastic kids golf clubs? Should probably be thrown out there as this is Golfho's after all.

Soccer balls, golf clubs, and a lawn mower. I might as well get her some Birkenstocks, a flannel shirt, a bottle of patchouli, and some hair clippers with a #3 guard on them.
Stripper pole it is. Never too early to get her on the road to learning a vocation.
