Rude awakening: Air base neighbor bugged by bugle

AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. —
Fairchild Air Force Base has been blowing the bugle to beat the band, and at least one nearby resident is about ready to do just that.

A commander's order to pump up the volume on bugle calls and the national anthem played over the base public address system had some neighbors complaining of being jolted awake and conversations being drowned out.

"A few weeks ago, it got extremely loud," said Lisa Long, who lives a quarter-mile from the base west of Spokane. "So bad you couldn't talk on a cell phone. You couldn't talk to somebody standing next to you."

I was driving to work one day and didn't hear Reveille playing.  I went by this RX7 parked on the side of the road and didn't think anything of it.  The guy was a CMS and caught up to me in the parking lot of my building and chewed my ass out big time.  I begged off innocent but he wasn't buying it.  Asked me where I worked and later in the day my Chief came and asked me what happened.  I gave my side of the story and he just smiled and said no prob.

Good thing I was sleeping with his daughter.  Not a recommended course of action but it always worked out well for me.

Most Air Force bases you can barely hear that sumbitch unless you're standing under the loudspeaker.  I reckon the base commander has a stick up his ass.  Most base commanders do.  That's a loser job.
