Scary Thing Happened This Weekend ...
« on: August 17, 2008, 07:19:41 PM »

We stayed in a friend's cabin up in the mountains, near the top.  Big thunderstorm last night.  At one point, around maybe 3AM, I was awakened by a huge BOOM!  Very, very close.  Turns out the cabin closest to us got struck by lightning.

Instinctively, I reached for my wife ... and found nothing.  I reach farther ... and find her body pillow.  I reach still farther ... and finally, there she is.  Whew.  (My wife says she woke up, felt me grab for her, groggily thought I was our child, and soothingly said, "It's OK, it's OK" to me.)

Of course, then I was paranoid that our cabin had been hit and was on fire.  Laid there, sniffing periodically to see if I smelled smoke, and watching the doorway to see any flickering from the flames.

Nature can suck my ass.

BIG thunderboomer rolled through about 4 am, good fireworks show and CLOSE.

Heard a transformer blow not too far away after a strike...

I wasn't sure where you were going with this part.... if you'd have mentioned something about an extra appendage, I'd have been scared also...

 Shocked

Glad nothing serious happened. I've been close myself. Six weeks after we moved into our house one of our trees got hit in the middle of the night and caught fire - 30 yards from the house.

Noticed it smoldering the next morning when I let the dog out.

LOL

Karen bought a new fan the other day.  I stayed up more than half the night, because I thought it smelled  Air quotes hot  Air quotes .  I finally got up and unplugged it.

I thought, man, I'll be damned if I'm goin' down in a house fire from some faulty wire in an electric fan.
