New Fall TV Shows 2008
« on: August 28, 2008, 12:48:12 PM » |

We just got replaced the DVR in our house, so we've got lots of space for new shows.
What new shows look promising or are on your radar? Fringe is the only one so far that I've set to record.
Any of these look interesting?

Of those I've even heard of, Sons of Anarchy is the only one that looks even a little bit intriguing to me.

I haven't even heard of half your list but of those that I have seen advertised I have to agree with spacey - Sons of Anarchy will get a look.
I'm looking forward to the final season of The Shield.

I hope your version ofKath & Kim is as good as our Kath & Kim. After all our very own 2I, has starred in the Aussie series.

I'll have to see Kath and Kim, on Jules recommendation. I hope its about attractive lesbian lovers.
I haven't noticed any on your list except that I know I've seen teasers for Crusoe. I noticed this one in particular because I once wrote a HS literature paper on Crusoe. IIRC, my thesis was, basically, "Crusoe basically was (in its day) a modern version of Everyman, the plot devices were stolen. It really wasn't all that original." Typical 16 or 17 year old antiauthoritarian rage against the success of a hugely popular classic.
I may watch it, but mostly out of respect for Gilligan's Island, which was clearly inspired by the original book*.
I am a bit skeptical about the TV show. I understand they are different mediums, and we are in different times, but arguably the greatest element of the book was it's title. Surely the TV people could have paid homage and added at least a few more syllables in the title, if not a dozen words. And it will be interesting to see how the TV deals with the whole 'cannibalism practiced by obviously inferior beings' issue. My guess is Crusoe will be portrayed as a bleeding lib, a conciliator, not man enough to sort of put the uncultured aborigines in their place.
*I am, of course, referring to Dafoe's The Life and strange Surprising Adventures of Robinson Crusoe of York, Mariner: Who lived Eight and Twenty Years, all alone in an un-inhabited Island on the coast of America, near the Mouth of the Great River of Oroonoque; Having been cast on Shore by Shipwreck, where-in all the Men perished but himself. With An Account how he was at last as strangely deliver'd by Pyrates. Written by Himself

The show just moves too slowly to keep my attention. I saw a re-run scheduled on the Guide channel, and it got me thinking of my then-growing frustration with the sluggish pace of the show. I don't have time for that *feces* -- I've got testicular self-exams to give, a nose hair collection to reorganize, ...

LOL. well, I expect season 2 to go much faster now the major characters/themes/backstory and so forth are now set.
anyways, as long as Lena and Summer get their share of screentime, it will remain amongst the 10 best shows on tv lol
