Clive, I'm Curious.......
« on: September 03, 2008, 06:40:49 PM » |

Reading your nipple abrasion thread was sadistically delicious. But on an aside I was wondering....
Do you run every day at lunch? Run a few days a week? Run when you can?
Do you eat lunch on the days you run? If you skip lunch do you eat breakfast? Do you eat breakfast anyway?
Not asking on a company time vibe, but more of a chronological day dealie.
TIA

I run maybe four days out of five. Don't seem to get the chance to run on the weekends -- too much going on and/or too lazy. Usually run at lunchtime, but occasionally after work. I'd guess it's about a 3:1 split. Started out with one of the technical division directors, then stepped it up to our COO. (He runs about 7:45 to 8:30 pace, which is about what I run alone. R&D dude goes about 10:00-10:40 per mile.) I eat every day. I have something of a pantry in my office, so I typically put something together and work through lunch. The minestrone splatter on the contracts adds a certain "we don't take ourselves too seriously, and we don't take you very seriously either, Mr. Whirlpool" charm. I eat breakfast every day. Formerly always oatmeal, but I'm branching out.

LOL Nice post. TY
After reading your (and Fuzzy's post(s) ) it's time I start walking running no wait, I really mean running. I get an hour for lunch, I can do it.
My question/problem is logistics. So to speak. I don't eat breakfast. I have gotten by for 38 years on coffee and cigarettes, but obviously that won't do.
Was wondering how/when/what to eat..........
Typing this, I guess I have answered my own question. Start with 1/2 hour and eat light. Then work one way or the other.
(Having trouble concentrating with Sarah Pawlenty chattering on in the background.)
I don't eat a big lunch, but don't have a pantry either.

Subject to circumstances and without being militant about it, I'm a big fan of eating a greater number of smaller "meals" throughout the day. I tend therefore not to gorge at lunch, so I can run four or five hours later without fear of upheaval. Plus, I get in touch with my Uisce side when I eat second breakfast.
Just like the books say, don't overdo it. You're far more likely to quit or start skipping runs (which leads to quitting) if you're overwhelming your body and/or not allowing yourself sufficient recovery time.

Clive's point of more, smaller meals during the day is a good idea. Start slow and don't discount the benefits of walking during your "run", especially when you are just starting out. Here's a site with lots of good information: http://www.halhigdon.com/Here's the link to a pretty basic beginner running plan: http://www.halhigdon.com/beginrunner/plan.htmThere are probably thousands of other websites as well and runnersworld.com is one I use as well.

When I started running with R&D guy (after a >2-decade break from running), we stopped to walk maybe 3-5 times in the course of a 2.78mi loop. Hal Higdon The man knows his stuff.

Did anyone else think that "Clive, I'm curious" sounded ghey? (at least partially, that is)

Yeah, I was pretty much expecting a bi/curious thread. But there's nothing not ghey about running shorts.

stroh, You are not getting all the info you need. All of them are not telling you about the "chafing" you will suffer if you don't choose the proper running shorts.

At the not insubstantial risk of being indelicate, I've experienced chafing "down there" in the past. But I was running far greater distances and for far longer times at a stretch. Plus, my package probably doesn't pendulate much, owing to the ritualistic daily binding.
