[SPOILERS] Tarvaris Jackson
« on: September 14, 2008, 01:09:31 PM »

The experiment is over Chili.

15 *goshdarn* points today on 5 field goals?? The Vikings should have blown out the Colts today. You are squandering one of the top defenses in the NFL.

MF hate!

Jackson is learning, Childress is not.

The Childress experiment is the one that should be over.

This is a SuperBowl contending team with a good Coach. Bangs Head

Jackson may be learning but not fast enough for this team. From what I saw the OL has some weakness too. In this league and not knowing what is going to happen with the salary cap the Viks need to win sooner then later.

This is the only time I will sound Torpedo-like.

When no one can run against you they will be throwing all the time so the yardage statistics will be skewed a bit.

This unit is one of the top half dozen in the NFL. Very definitely good enough to win it all.

But they won't because the offense (outside of Peterson) is failing badly.

Hicks played pretty well with McKinnie being out, but you can really tell when Mckinnie isn't in.

I won't diss their pass D on total yards, I'll diss it on DVOA stats  Wink   ...  they seem to really suck at reacting to receivers who adjust / break off routes... the interior middle zone coverage is also atrocious.

****.  not a chance.

T.Jack is regressing.  64.7952 QB rating so far this year

AD just got the 5th most rushing yards ever in the history of the NFL for the first half today, and with our defense there is a chance.

And anyone that has watched (more than a few games) T.Jack play would know he is making a lot better decisions than last year. He's not forcing balls as much. He's learning when to run and when not run, and slide.

Everyone is grading him as if he was a first overall pick, he was the last pick in the 2nd round of the draft, it is going to take some time for him to learn things, and he is.

I'm fine with however one looks at it but <20 points given up at home better mean a W.

W-L is the only stat at the end of the day.

And DVOA had Atlanta #2 last week.  Shocked Wink Grin

Sorry Torp. They traded up to pick him and anointed him the quarterback of the future. NFL = Not For Long. Tom Brady was a sixth round pick.

This is his third year in the league. Learning time is over.

They are wasting this defense.

I agree, it's all about W's.

As for DVOA, no, DVOA comes out in week 4 after there's enough stats available to start building it.  right now it's just VOA.  and atlanta did play exceedingly above league average last week.... just against a really below average team  Wink    in week 4, the D will kick in and DVOA will put atlanta back where they belong.    The DAVE ranking is what you should really look at on that site right now .. for now...

Well, the whole Montana, Brady thing is a bit rare, but I WILL say that yes, you wasted the draft pick on him, there are a ton of backup qb's who could be running your offense better.   70 lifetime QB rating is not gonna keep you in the league for long....

anyways, you are not just wasting the defense, you're wasting peterson who is not built to take 30 carries a game in the NFL every week.  2 more years of carries like that against rabid defenses keyed on the run  (with tjoke at this performance level) and peterson will be done in 7 years total.

This is his third year in the league. Learning time is over.

3 years, but today's game was only his 16th career start, so only one season of starting. Not many QB's do well with only one year of starting under their belt.

Torp, I know you can't be convinced otherwise,  but do you really want to make me dig up stats on 2nd-3rd round QBs who become starters and their QB ratings after 16 games?   I'd be willing to bet (too bad you don't Smiley ) significantly more than 50%  have a QB rating ahead of his.
