Objectively, on style points and how I think this plays with the people, I give McBain a slight edge. This was no knockout, and I don't think there was any real blood, but I still think McBain comes out stronger now than he was this afternoon.
And yes, McBain's style was predictable with fill in the blank attacks; Obama doesn't understand ______ and I do because I have been here one million years.

Sadly, you may be right. The dumbasses in the country will get taken in by all of McFlipper's irrelevant anecdotes (that were so obviously used to change the subject when he got backed into a corner) and his repeated use of "Obama doesn't understand" soundbite. I can't believe Obama didn't just once say "But I do understand, Mr. McCain. Constantly repeating the same thing and over again doesn't suddently make it true."

well, I (for once, not the cynic here !!) don't see McCain coming out ahead in this debate in any way. This debate(s) is to convince those 5-10% of voters who are still undecideds or the 1-2% who are firmly committed along party lines but can be flipped when actually hearing/seeing these people talk--- certainly not the vast majority of people. And I think to those undecideds-- the "independents", the ones who actually vote both parties every year, etc... McCain came out horrible IMHO. He had very few 'Oh Snap!" moments, he got brutally owned on the economy intro, he got brutally owned on EERAK, and at best, "won" the rest of foreign policy by telling anecdotes and saying "You don't understand" ... while this will certainly make those of us already committed to our votes even more committed (most likely) I doubt this sways the undecideds... McCain is SUPPOSED to be the Foreign Policy expert and at times sounded confused and got belligerent when Obama wasn't caving in. Can you imagine him acting like that with a foreign head of state? Anyways http://www.cbsnews.com/htdocs/pdf/2008Debate1.pdf this made my morning, of course who knows what kind of trust can be put in it... but one can "hope". McCain missed his chance to hit a homerun on this debate, no doubt... and barring a scandal or some other major milestone, this was his last chance to hit a homerun. I think Monday/Tuesday polling will show no change or at best a 1% McCain swing, which will go away as the next debates carry out.

Instead of simply looking at the voting split along gender and/or economic lines, poll analysts need to seriously start examining the split along the moran/non-moran line.

And I think to those undecideds-- the "independents", the ones who actually vote both parties every year, etc... McCain came out horrible IMHO. FWIW, I haven't followed much of the early campaigning of either party. I'm registered as "Unaffiliated" in NC. I *think* I'm pretty much the demographic these guys are trying to reach in the debates. I watched it and thought it was pretty even. Neither candidate came across as lost, hopelessly out of touch, insincere, etc. McCain seemed more aggressive, which I'm not big on. I especially did not like the repeated "doesn't understand" charge -- I'll decide if he doesn't understand, thanks, and don't talk down to me. Both guys stretched the truth or took things out of context to "punk" the other; that didn't do either one much good in my eyes. This debate wasn't enough to push me firmly in either direction. Then again, I wasn't drunk when I watched it.

http://forums.fark.com/cg...omments.pl?IDLink=3904527find post timestamped 2008-09-28 06:17:26 AM it's tragic that you can't find such beautiful, true, and yet simplistically verbose analysis in the "evil librul MSM" about this critical point.
