So I had my first "real" post last night, Corridor Officer. Corridor Officer is a pretty heady spot to be thrown into for your first time, you have to get on the prison loud speaker and make several announcements (called prisoner movements), like...meals, or maybe each living pods yard and gym etc, you also make announcements for pill line and insulin things like that. Last week when I was training I vaguely remember an announcement for a prisoner to return to his living unit.

Which leads me to this.

Sometime during about the third hour of my shift I went to the little boys room, when I came back (less than a minute later), there was a note on my phone.

Corridor
"Please have inmate Mike Kaihonez
DOC# 779863 return to his living unit
immediately"

Sooooooooo Seamus the newbie gets on the prison loud speaker system and makes that announcement loud and clear (hey I had mic training). About 30 seconds later I get a call from another officer just busting a gut, he says "say that name again". It was then I knew I'd been got. I was actually just about ready to enter it into the log book.

I know:
Phil McCracken
*8==>* Gozinya
Mike Hunt
and now add Mike Kaihonez to that list.

Sometimes you just have to laugh, even if it's at yourself. One of the guys said "welcome to the team" which made me feel kinda good, and several more through the night asked me if I found that Kaihonez guy yet.

So do they expect you to "rock the mic" or do you have to make the announcements train station style??

Definitely train station style, I'm actually rocking two mics, I have to simultaneously use the prison and also our own radio mic that we carry.

I soooooooooo wanted to Vanilla Ice it, but a little voice in my head said that I should maybe not.

Some of the other guards were like, "it's good that you're taking this so well", and I was like "are you kidding me, that was so f'ing funny" and they were like "yeah" and I was like "totally".

As far as hazing goes I figger I got off easy. Male bonding at it's finest.
